Our learning this half term:

General Class Information

Each week, the children have exposure to a range of texts through their learning, our book area, ERIC (Everybody Read in Class) session and our end of day story time. As well as an individual and guided reading session with the class teacher or teaching assistant.

Home reading is to practice and consolidate their fluency, expression and comprehension. Children will take home 1 decodable book appropriate to their phonic level as well as a library book. The decodable book is for the children to practice their fluency and expression. Please can you let us know how your child has got on with their reading books using the reading record. We would like you to write a comment each time you hear your child read.

The children will be listened to at least once a week on a 1-1 basis with the teacher or teaching assistant. All children will take new books home on the Friday and should be returned by the Tuesday. The class teacher or teaching assistant will change your child’s book on the day they are listened to read. We will not change a home reading book unless there is a comment from you in the reading record. If we do not have a comment or a book is not returned on the correct day for two weeks Mrs Collins, our English curriculum leader, will contact you.

One child per half term will be nominated for being the Reading Hero for their class based on their commitment to home reading. If your child is chosen to be the class Reading Hero they will be given a prize and a certificate and acknowledged in Friday’s good work celebration assembly.

Homework letters are sent every week explaining the homework that has been set and should be returned to school by the Tuesday of the following week.

Throughout the school day we make observations of your children in play to form part of their foundation stage record. If you notice anything significant at home, for example your child makes something creative or comments on something that they see, you can jot it down on a ‘Discovered at Home’ sheets and send it in to us.  We would love to read them and respond to them with your child!

PE is twice a week on a Tuesday and Friday.

Children should not be wearing any jewellery including earrings. If your child does wear earrings, please ensure they are taken out before school on Tuesday and Thursday.
