Academy Vacancies

We are looking for 2 Midday Assistants to support our pupils over lunch times – Start Date Monday 13th June   We are looking for a cleaner to help keep care for our school.                      
The Local Governing Board of Discovery Academy wish to appoint a willing, enthusiastic and caring Midday Assistant to supervise, help and play with pupils during the lunchtime break in the playground and dining areas of the Academy.

Midday Assistants assist pupils during the lunch break, working as part of a team, including supervising welfare, behaviour and safety, ensuring a clean and tidy environment, controlling pupil behaviour in line with the Academy’s behaviour policy, dealing with any misbehaviour and liaising with the teaching staff accordingly, responsibility for attending to pupils who may be sick or injured and raise any concerns in terms of welfare and safety to the Principal. It also includes the following:

  • To ensure that the lunch session is controlled and pupils are managed in terms of behaviour and safety.
  • To look after the welfare of the pupils in connection with hygiene, table manners, general behaviour and assist any children with eating difficulties.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Deal with hazards to prevent accidents.
  • Supervise the safety of children at all times.
  • Make senior leaders aware of any issues or accidents to ensure that the children are managed in a safe environment at all times.
  • Supervise the children at play after they have left the dining hall and organise games for younger children.
  • Administer First Aid if necessary (training provided)
  • Attend any training, which the Principal may consider appropriate to the role.
  • Carry out any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Principal relating to the supervision of children.
The Local Governing Board of Discovery Academy wish to appoint a willing, enthusiastic and hardworking cleaner to clean all areas of the Academy.

Cleaners undertake cleaning duties, individually or as part of a team, the cleaning of a designated area(s) and ensure they are kept in a clean and hygienic condition.  This will be carried out under the supervision of Site Manager / Caretaker within the premises to ensure high standards of premise care in accordance with cleaning specifications and current Health and Safety Legislation.  You will:

  • Be responsible for cleaning certain parts of the Academy site as allocated by the Site Manager / Caretaker (this may vary from time to time).
  • Use cleaning materials as instructed by the Site Manager /Caretaker
  • Operate cleaning machinery in cleaning soft and hard surfaces e.g. vacuum cleaners and polishers.
  • Understand and follow cleaning schedules and instructions.
  • Carry out the following duties:
  • Vacuum cleaning hard and soft floors;
  • Spot cleaning spillages;
  • Wiping furniture, ledges, pipes, paintwork, doors and polishing door glass;
  • Emptying and cleaning bins;
  • Cleaning toilets, sinks and surrounds, and fixtures and fittings;
  • Mopping and spray cleaning hard floor surfaces;
  • Wiping and polishing and straightening furniture;
  • Replenishing janitorial supplies in toilets etc.;
  • Checking and closing windows, switching off lights after work;
  • Such other duties as may be allocated from time to time;
  • All defects/hazards must be immediately reported to the Site Manager / Caretaker or

The role will be for 1 hour 15 minutes per day, Monday to Friday, term time only (39 weeks of the year). The hours will be over the lunchtime period which is between 11:45am and 1:15pm

The salary is TMBC Grade A Points 1-2 (£2,712-£2,739 Actual Salary).

Other information

The role will be for 2hrs 30 minutes per day, Monday to Friday, term time only plus 4 weeks during the holidays. (43 weeks of the year).  The hours are 3:30pm – 6pm

The salary is TMBC Grade A Points 1-2
