Our learning this term –

Summer Term

This Term our Topic is What do I eat?

Reception will learn about Food, what foods are healthy and unhealthy, how to take care of our teeth and where some of our food comes from.

We will be helping each other to be good friends and good choices, to share, to resolve some conflicts independently and become independent learners. The children will be supported to challenge themselves in all learning areas outdoors and indoors and wonder, engage and question to develop their learning. We will continue to develop our speaking and listening skills, retelling stories and explaining our knowledge.

We will be reading The Tiger who came to Tea by Judith Kerr, Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne and The Runaway Pea by Kjartan Poskitt  as well as non fiction texts about Food and Farms.

In Mathematics we will be counting to 20 and beyond, explore how these numbers are made up e.g. 10 and nine is nineteen. The children will explore and name 3D shapes, sharing and grouping amounts and investigating odd and even numbers.

General Class Information

Reading:

Each week, the children have exposure to a range of texts through their phonics, wider learning, our book area, ERIC (Everybody Read in Class) session and our end of day story time.

Reading with your child at home is also very important to help provide your child with a love of reading. Each week you child will bring home a school reading book to read to you at home. This book will be linked with the Letters and Sounds Phonics that they have been learning in class. The books will have tricky words in that we have learnt to read, and decodable words appropriate for the stage where your child is at in Phonics. It is vital for your child’s reading development that they read and share these books with adults at home.

Each week your child will be visiting our school library and will be bringing a library book home for you to read together. We will also choose one child each week to share a class library book at home and we ask you to support their reading development by discussing the book, and asking your child questions, so that they can express their opinion about the story.

Homework:

Homework letters are sent every week explaining the homework that has been set and should be returned to school by the Tuesday of the following week.

Throughout the school day we make observations of your children in play to form part of their EYFS Learning Journey. If you notice anything significant at home, for example your child makes something creative or comments on something that they see, you can jot it down on a ‘Discovered at Home’ sheets and send it in to us.  We would love to read them and respond to them with your child!

P.E:

PE is on a Wednesday. Children should have a full kit in school with white t shirt and black shorts and pumps. Please let us know if you need support in providing this for your child.

Children should not be wearing any jewellery including earrings. If your child does wear earrings, ensure they are taken out before PE.

We look forward to playing and learning with you in this final term of Reception.
